Chairman of the National Assembly of Kuwait Marzuq al-Ghanim and accompaning delegation came to Azerbaijan to participate in the conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network under the motto “Boosting the role of national parliaments in promoting global peace and sustainable development” held on June 30 - July 2 in Baku.
The Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network under the motto “Boosting the role of national parliaments in promoting global peace and sustainable development” has kicked off at the Heydar Aliyev Center. The conference brought together parliamentary delegations from more than 40 countries, and representatives of 9 international parliamentary organizations. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the conference. The head of state made a speech at the event. “Our chairmanship in NAM coincided with COVID-19 and Azerbaijan was one of the countries which actively played a role on international arena in combatting this disease,” said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev as he made a speech at the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network. “We provided financial support and humanitarian support to more than 80 countries,” the head of state noted.
Addressing the event, Speaker of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs Sahiba Gafarova took her follow and welcomed the participants. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis stated that, taking into account the ongoing pandemic, armed conflicts, climate change and many other challenges, the present-day world was going through such a tremendous period of transformation that the global security and development structure was exposed to strong and serious changes. She reiterated the continued importance of the core ideals and role of the Non-Aligned Movement in maintaining peace, security and sustainable development.
